Excellent CPU, it comes with a very efficient cooler. I am using it about 8 months ago with my EVGA 780i mobo, two SLI 8800GT GPUs and Windows XP, the only problem I ever faced was limitation of the operating system ;).

Wonderful that the i7 has arrived - prices for this great processor, the Q9550, are dropping. This is one amazing processor. I might be the best judge because I went from a Pentium 4 3GHz to this quad core at 2.83GHz. I just haven't been able to get this processor to peg at 100% usage on all four cores yet. The number of programs I can run at once is incredible. Where I would wait and wait on the old P4, software has loaded and done it's work already.

I have been used to an older Intel 550 with 4GB of DDR2. This Quad runs circles around it. I have it clocked a 3.2GHz and it runs stable with stock volts. This chip is less than the Q9450 and it's faster so, don't buy the slow one thinking the price is less than a faster model. Best bang for your dollar is the E8400 or the Q9550. Love it!

I have been using an old Pentium D processor for long time, finally i upgraded to Q9550. Its a bit expensive as compared to famous Q6600 but its really a great item. I did change the stock cooler. 5 out of 5 from my side. Great Product.

Runs alot cooler than my the 6600 it replaced. Idles in upper 20C range and maxes out around 50C with all 4 cores at 100% load using stock heatsink and fan. Old 6600 idles in upper 40's and went all the way up to 60+ under full load. Intel needs to get rid of hard to install pushpin design for heatsink and fan. Very difficult to install correctly and you might bend/crack motherboard in process! So that's why I"m taking off a star mainly for that. Otherwise, a decent cpu all around but probably overkill ...
